Abu Dhabi – Tuesday June 11th 2013:
As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) teamed up with HealthPlus to organize a special health awareness event today under the title of ‘Investing in your health and wellbeing’. The aim of the event, which took place at ADX Abu Dhabi premises, was to raise awareness on Chronic Diseases amongst ADX employees, investors and visitors.
The event included a Health Talk by Dr. Mohammed Al-Khatib, the Medical Director at HealthPlus Diabetes & Endocrinology Center about chronic diseases including diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, metabolic disorders in addition to obesity. The talk was followed by free health checks for ADX employees, investors and visitors including Body Mass Index, Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar which were administered by HealthPlus nurses.
Mr. Rashed Al Baloushi, CEO of ADX, commented on the event saying:”We at ADX believe in consolidating the concepts of health in line with the vision of the UAE’s future in maintaining human health and reducing the prevalence of rates of chronic diseases among members of the community. We also believe that good health and well- being solutions must be available to all members of the community.”
Mr. Majd Abu Zant, CEO of HealthPlus, commented, “Such events have given HealthPlus the opportunity to advance our main mission of improving the long-term health of the communities that we serve. This can be achieved through regular screening and early detection, and promoting health awareness and education. In the past few weeks since the opening of our new facility we have found that more than 20% of the patients visiting our center were diagnosed with Diabetes for the first time by our doctors. This is an alarming number; collaborations between organizations within the community are vital in order to continue raising awareness and educating the public by all means possible.”
Dr. Mohammed Al-Khatib said, “There is a vast number of patients with diabetes or suffering from hypertension or high cholesterol that are currently unaware of their disease. Increased awareness will benefit the patients in avoiding any complications. We hope through education and raising awareness, we will help in decreasing the prevalence of diabetes and other chronic diseases which we as healthcare professionals all look forward to.”
