How long should women try to get pregnant before calling their doctors?
Generally, experts recommend at least a year. Women who are over the age of 35 should meet with their doctors after six months of trying to conceive. A woman’s chances of getting pregnant and remaining pregnant decreases rapidly after she turns 30.
Health problems increase the risk of infertility, so it is necessary to talk to your doctor if you have any of the following:
- Painful, irregular or no periods.
- More than one miscarriage.
- Pelvic inflammatory disease.
- Endometriosis
Who should consider fertility services?
You might require fertility treatments if you or your partner have had a record of health conditions. An inability to get pregnant despite trying for a year can be a sign of infertility. Recurrent respiratory diseases, difficulty ejaculating, lumps in the testicle area, and a low sperm count are all indications that you should see your doctor.
There are different fertility services that are available for those with infertility problems. If you think that you and your partner need treatments before you can get pregnant, you should talk to your doctor.
Is infertility just a woman’s problem?
No, infertility is not just a woman’s problem. Infertility is caused by problems in both men and women.
Generally, one-third of infertility is due to women’s problems. Another one-third is because of the problems with the man. And in one-third, the cause of the problem is both the man and the woman, or the issue cannot be identified.
Is infertility a common problem?
Infertility is quite common. On average, 10% of couples within reproductive age are unable to get pregnant or carry a pregnancy to term. 9% of men and 11% of women have experienced problems with fertility.
5%–10% of infertility is caused by unexplained factors. This is usually when the doctor is unable to diagnose the exact cause. It may be due to problems with the sperm quality, egg quality, or health.
